Sunwapta Falls
A torrent of plunging water not far from the Icefields Parkway, Sunwapta Falls is just one of the many waterfalls in Jasper created by hanging valleys.
Sunwapta Falls is also the trailhead for a beautiful backcountry trail that features campgrounds along the Athabasca River and majestic peaks towering in the background. The trail passes through the Chaba River burn area, legacy of a 1967 wildfire. The fire rejuvenated a large portion of the subalpine forest along the Chaba River Valley and is now one of the best bear and moose habitats in the park.
Location & Access
Situated on the Sunwapta River, which flows from the Athabasca Glacier in the Columbia Icefield. Positioned just off the Icefields Parkway (Highwy 93), approximately 55 km (34 mi) south of the town of Jasper.
The strongest water flow at Sunwapta Falls occurs during late spring to early summer, when snow and glacier melt from the Athabasca Glacier-and surrounding snowfields-is at its peak.
Parking, Picnic tables and Restrooms. Year round access, but winter access may require a 4×4 and winter tires.
آبشار سانواپتا
آبشار سانواپتا، سیلابی از آبهای خروشان، نه چندان دور از پارک وی آیسفیلدز، تنها یکی از آبشارهای متعدد جاسپر است که توسط درههای معلق ایجاد شده است
آبشار سانواپتا همچنین آغازگر یک مسیر زیبای طبیعتگردی است که دارای اردوگاههایی در امتداد رودخانه آتاباسکا و قلههای باشکوه سر به فلک کشیده در پسزمینه است. این مسیر از منطقه سوخته رودخانه چابا، میراث آتشسوزی سال ۱۹۶۷، عبور میکند. این آتشسوزی بخش بزرگی از جنگلهای نیمهآلپی در امتداد دره رودخانه چابا را احیا کرد و اکنون یکی از بهترین زیستگاههای خرس و گوزن شمالی در پارک است
موقعیت مکانی و دسترسی
در کنار رودخانه سانواپتا واقع شده است که از یخچال طبیعی آتاباسکا در پارک وی آیسفیلدز (بزرگراه ۹۳)، تقریباً ۵۵ کیلومتری جنوب شهر جاسپر سرچشمه میگیرد
قویترین جریان آب در آبشار سانواپتا در اواخر بهار تا اوایل تابستان رخ میدهد، زمانی که برف و یخچالهای طبیعی از یخچال طبیعی آتاباسکا – و مناطق برفی اطراف آن – در اوج خود هستند
پارکینگ، میزهای پیک نیک و سرویس بهداشتی. دسترسی در تمام طول سال، اما دسترسی در زمستان ممکن است نیاز به یک خودروی چهار چرخ محرک و لاستیکهای زمستانی داشته باشد
