Saint Helen’s Island
Saint Helen’s Island (French: Île Sainte-Hélène) is an island in the St. Lawrence River, in the territory of the city of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It forms part of the Hochelaga Archipelago. It is situated immediately offshore from Old Montreal on the southeastern side of the Island of Montreal in southwestern Quebec, and is part of the central borough of Ville-Marie. The Le Moyne Channel separates it from Notre Dame Island.
Saint Helen’s Island and Notre Dame Island together make up Jean-Drapeau Park (formerly Parc des Îles).
It was named in 1611 by Samuel de Champlain in honour of his wife, Hélène de Champlain, née Boullé. The island belonged to the Le Moyne family of Longueuil from 1665 until 1818, when it was purchased by the British government. A fort (Saint Helen Island Fort), powderhouse and blockhouse were built on the island as defences for the city, in consequence of the War of 1812.
The newly formed Canadian government acquired the island in 1870; it was converted into a public park in 1874. The public used it as a beach and swam in the river.

جزیره سنت هلن جزیرهای در رودخانه سنت لارنس، در قلمرو شهر مونترال، کبک، کانادا است. این جزیره بخشی از مجمعالجزایر هوچلاگا را تشکیل میدهد. این جزیره بلافاصله پس از مونترال قدیم، در ضلع جنوب شرقی جزیره مونترال در جنوب غربی کبک واقع شده است و بخشی از بخش مرکزی ویل-ماری است. کانال لو موین آن را از جزیره نوتردام جدا میکند
جزیره سنت هلن و جزیره نوتردام با هم پارک ژان-دراپو (که قبلاً پارک جزیرهها نام داشت) را تشکیل میدهند
این جزیره در سال ۱۶۱۱ توسط ساموئل دو شامپلن به افتخار همسرش، هلن دو شامپلن، با نام خانوادگی بوله، نامگذاری شد. این جزیره از سال ۱۶۶۵ تا ۱۸۱۸ متعلق به خانواده لو موین از لونگوی بود، زمانی که توسط دولت بریتانیا خریداری شد. در نتیجه جنگ ۱۸۱۲، یک قلعه (قلعه جزیره سنت هلن)، انبار باروت و یک کلبه چوبی به عنوان استحکامات دفاعی شهر در این جزیره ساخته شد
دولت تازه تأسیس کانادا در سال ۱۸۷۰ این جزیره را به دست آورد؛ در سال ۱۸۷۴ آن را به یک پارک عمومی تبدیل کرد. مردم از آن به عنوان ساحل استفاده میکردند و در رودخانه شنا میکردند
